Cấu trúc used to hay kết cấu used to V được áp dụng để nói tới một thói quen, hành động, sự khiếu nại hoặc trạng thái đã có lần xảy ra trong quá khứ và không hề xảy ra trong hiện tại nữa. Đôi khi nó được dùng để nhấn to gan về sự khác biệt giữa hiện nay thực và quá khứ.

Lưu ý:
1. Tủ định của cấu trúc used to lớn V rất có thể được viết dưới dạng used not khổng lồ V. Ví dụ:
I use not to go swimming.She use not to drink that much coffee.2. Không tồn tại thì hiện tại với cấu trúc used to lớn V trong tiếng Anh. Để nói đến thói thân quen trong hiện nay tại, ta dùng các trạng từ tần suất (usually, always, often, never,...)
3. Used hay use?
Khi trong câu không tồn tại “did”, ta cần sử dụng “used to” (có d)
Khi vào câu có “did”, ta dùng “use to” (không bao gồm d)

Cách dùng
Cấu trúc be used to lớn V-ing được áp dụng để diễn tả ai đó đã từng có lần làm 1 việc nào đó nhiều lần và đã gồm kinh nghiệm, không hề lạ lẫm với việc đó nữa.
